Looking in the mirror, do you see the telltale signs of aging? The fine lines and wrinkles around your eyes and mouth area. We lovingly refer to these as crow’s feet and laugh lines, but the truth is they are the first signs of aging. It would be fabulous if we could stop aging all together but the best we can do is slow it down to stay as young looking as possible. Good skincare and good nutrition are the foundations for accomplishing this feat.
I know there are probably a million how-to’s out there that claim this product works and that product works, but the simple truth is that there is no miracle substance that will turn back the clock. If you start taking care of your skin now, before these signs appear, you will have a much better chance of delaying them even further. I started taking care of my skin when I was 18 and did not even suffer the high school acne problem. In addition, I have no gray hair and barely have any wrinkles at all and I am 43.
1.
Start with nutrition. Eat a balanced diet with protein, complex carbohydrates and fruits and vegetables. Carrots and dark leafy greens such as spinach and kale are excellent and packed with nutrients. Dairy products and egg yolks are good for both your skin and your hair. Eggs provide a good source of protein and fat. Take vitamin supplements along with your food. Vitamin A, C, D and E will help keep your skin healthy and wrinkle free. Drink a minimum of a gallon of water a day to keep the skin hydrated.
2.
Wash your face with a gentle cleanser or natural soap twice a day, once in the morning and once before bed. Use a toner and hydrating cream under makeup and under eye cream before bed. The problem with mature skin is that it gets dry easily. You will need a good hydrating cream like "Udderly Smooth" or even creamy baby oil will work. The key is to keep water in the skin to plump it up. Use a water based product that soaks in quickly. Use a good eye cream under and at the outer corner of the eyes and follow up with your moisturizer over the rest of the face.
3.
Once a week give yourself a relaxing facial. Use stream to open the pores and use a gentle soap with an oatmeal base for dry skin to cleanse the face. Chilled witch hazel makes a good skin toner. Mix up a facial mask of beaten egg and ½ cup of oatmeal for a hydrating facial mask.
4.
It is very important that you exfoliate the dead skin so that new cells can form. A good sugar scrub with a little Vitamin E oil works wonders for removing dead flaky skin. Facial massage helps the circulation in that it brings the blood and nutrients into the skin cells. This helps to rebuild the collagen that is the base of firmness in the skin. When our skin begins to lose collagen it gets loose and saggy. That is where the turkey neck and jiggly arms come from. Good skin care is not only for your face, it can be used anywhere you have skin. Arms, back and stomach can benefit from good skin care as well.
